Hey! Here's a youtube video I found that is advocating not to drink and drive. It is pretty sad though, just as a heads up to everyone.Tell me what you guys think of it. What things in the video do you think were planned to make the video more emotional to the viewer? Do you guys think the people they picked to play the roles were important to the commercial? Who do you think the commercial was primarily trying to be directed towards and why do you think that? Let me know what you guys think!
There is no denying the message behind this commercial and that might have to be with how blunt the commercial was, it left no room for debate. The death of the little boy was a direct cause of drinking and driving, one moment he was playing in his backyard and the next he was dead. His death is tragic and might seem like the main focus of the story; however there is a reason for the back story of the driver. He was a successful soccer player who had a lot going for him and with one bad decision he took the life of the child and has forever changed his own. In my opinion the commercial portrays both sides of well and drives home the message to not drink and drive.
ReplyDeleteThis video was clearly intended to leave a strong mark on the viewer. I agree with Connor, the commercial really does portray both sides well and demonstrates why a person should never drink and drive. I also agree with Connor when he said the the man changed his life significantly. Not only did this decision effect the driver, but it also effected the lives of many people. One decision can have large impacts beyond what a person may imagine. This video really struck me because I have many younger cousins and I imagined what I would do if something like this happened to one of them. This video is short but leaves a significant impact.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with both of you guys and those are some good thoughts! I think there is a lot about this video that you could analyze in more detail. This is what I used as my primary source for class on Thursday. I think the message it portrays is very straight forward and too the point, but there a lot of little details in the video that were added to make it have a stronger emotional effect on you. I also feel it added in many things to try to make the video relate to almost everyones lives, whether it's the kids, soccer, going to the bars, or any of the other things shown.
ReplyDeleteThere are many aspects of this video that any one person can relate to, and like Meghan said she has younger relatives and it had a significant impact on her. The video is doing what it intended to do; it is targeting our emotions to make an impact.
ReplyDeleteAs the others said, this commercial was very blunt and definitely left an impact on me. I found the backstory of the driver interesting since it made a clear connection to the little boy (both were playing soccer players and were even dressed in similar colors while playing soccer). Another striking aspect of the video was the way that the driver was portrayed as singing and having fun just moments before his life was changed forever by his poor decision.
ReplyDeleteAaron I definitely agree with what you said. I also noticed those details and the relation between the driver and the little boy, which I feel is a very interesting detail. It's actually pretty strange that they made this relation and I feel this is one detail that would be really good to analyze and see what they are really trying to say by doing this. Does anyone else have any ideas why they may have done this? I think it may be showing something about the boy could have grown up to be like the driver or maybe they meant something about the fact that both of the people have something in common as well as both of their lives changing drastically on that day.
