Anti-Meth Ad
This is a link to an anti-meth ad I found on youtube, it is not very complex, but it has some interesting aspects. Throughout the video the background just stays a single black color and does not change. What might this symbolize about someone on meth? The actress "Crystal Meth" starts out as a very put together women and as the video progresses she starts to change to show what happens to you the longer you stay on meth. The video does not have that big of a shock value, but does that lessen the strength of the overall message? Also, at the end of the ad the women is shown before and after doing meth, this is the first time that there was a change in the picture. What might this mean and why do you think the creator of the ad chose to do this?
Prompt 7: This advertisement acomplishes the effect of making people realize that meth is bad. The woman in the commercial progressively gets worse in looks and health. This leads the audience to believe that meth causes these things. The woman tells the audience what meth will take many things from you if you try it. All of the things mentioned are things that many people feel are important in their lives. Using examples people can relate to strengthens the overal arguement that meth is bad and you shouldn't try it.
ReplyDeletePrompt #1: Although this advertisement is very simple and very short, it does a great job communicating the negative effects of crystal meth. The ad plays on the fears of others because of the fact that the women's face is all bloody and nasty looking. The message is that if you use crystal meth, eventually your face will look this way and nobody will want to be around you. The fact that this ad shows the woman before she tried meth and after she was on meth represents the strong influence meth has on people and how people physically change while on meth. The plain black background throught the entire clip could suggest the loneliness and depression one could feel while on meth since black is a dark, depressing color.
ReplyDeletePrompt 1: This Anti-Meth Ad was powerful due to its simplicity. I appreciated the fact that it had one actress that the viewer listened to. Usually anti-drug ads have lots of things going on visually and sound wise but this was extremely simple. The visual aspect of "Crystal Meth" changing as meth destroyed her body was also powerful. Her skin and hair deteriorated. I found it interesting that the background and her clothes stayed the same. The ad was possibly showing how the users of meth don't notice until one day they look in the mirror and they look totally different. Crystal Meth is one of the most destructive drugs on a humans physical body and I think that this ad did a great job of showing just how powerful it is. I believe they used a women to play the part of the addict due to the fact that she gave her name as Crystal Meth and the fact that she narrated the ad as if she was the drug. This wraps the viewer into the commercial. The comparison of the before and after allowed us to just focus on the effects of meth due to the fact that the background was black. The effects of the drug seemed to stand out even more because the viewers focus was on just them. Many anti-meth ads use this technique of before and after but this was more personalized.

I think that people will think twice before trying an addictive drug such as meth and will not want to turn into a strung out scary looking person. It also shows how normal she started out with and that you cant just think that the end result is what she started out as and anyone can end up like she did.
